Hoffman Estates police officer under investigation
A Hoffman Estates police officer remains on paid leave in connection to an investigation into his work on an Illinois State Police task force.
David A. Eggers, first hired by the department in 1994, was placed on leave relating to his work on the Kane-Cook Auto Theft Task Force, officials confirmed Monday. All agencies involved were vague on details.
Neither Hoffman Estates, nor state police would divulge any specifics surrounding the investigation, including who launched it, when it started or what Eggers is accused of doing.
Hoffman Estates Police Chief Michael Hish confirmed Eggers is on paid leave, but would not offer any additional information, other than the prepared statement:
“A Hoffman Estates police officer assigned to the Kane-Cook County Auto Theft Task Force has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of an ongoing, confidential investigation into his activity as part of that task force,” the statement read.
“We are not able to provide additional details about the nature of the ongoing investigation. However, it is important to stress that the Hoffman Estates Police Department is assisting investigative authorities and is in contact with the Illinois State Police about this matter. We pledge our ongoing assistance until this matter is resolved.”
Eggers could not be reached for comment Monday afternoon. According to the village’s website, Eggers 2010 salary was $92,190.36.
Illinois State Police spokeswoman Monique Bond also declined to offer any comment on the investigation.
Florene Williams, president of the Metropolitan Alliance Police Union, which represents Eggers, said she first learned of the investigation “a couple weeks ago.”
However, Eggers hasn’t reached out to the union for any assistance, Williams said, and because of that the union has no information about the investigation.
“This is one of those cases I know nothing about,” she said.
Hish said Eggers was named to the task force in 2006. The Elgin-based group run by the state police was created in 1992, and focuses on identifying large stolen vehicle operations in Kane, Northwestern Cook and Northwestern Lake counties.
